During our visit to Harbin, we enjoyed our visit to see the tigers. This was the best zoo visit we've ever witnessed. The tigers were out in the wild, and we were the ones in the cages. At times, we were in the bus, driving around, watching the tigers, but at another place, there were cage-enclosed walk-ways that protected us from being the Siberian Tiger's supper.
Here's a little write-up I found that described some of the excitement to be found in the park:
"For visitors who love to see exciting activities, the Siberian Tiger Park is also a perfect place. In addition to viewing the tigers walking leisurely in the open-air, visitors can buy poultry or animals to feed them, including ducks, chickens, and even cows. Park employees will set the living animal free among the tigers, and visitors can see the unique live action of tigers preying upon it."
We didn't buy any animals to feed to the tigers. They looked pretty fat and healthy. But we got to watch one visitor throw a chicken to the tigers who fought over it, and promptly devoured it.
The tour guide told us that the tigers love the cold, and flourish in the winter months when the thermometer reads near zero, and below.
They had this wonderful "White Tiger" there. We were told that there are only about 200 of them left in the world now. His eyes were kind of icy blue.
This picture shows someone dangling some meat through our fence to feed to the tiger.
The tigers were really BIG! Much bigger than the tigers you might see in an ordinary zoo. Some of their size was attributed to their thick winter coats, but most of them were much larger than a typical male lion that you see at the zoo.
We really enjoyed the tigers.
