Through the years, we have wanted to visit Lake Powell many times. It's so beautiful and scenic! Dave loves the geology! The red rock formations, clear blue skies, warm water, and vast opportunities for swimming, water skiing, riding in a motor boat with the wind blowing through our hair . . . . all of it was an adventure we had dreamed of for a long time. We knew that it was something that required some experience though, and you had to have some know-how before you could just jump into it. Beyond the years we spent abroad, and not being in the neighborhood, we had never had anyone to show us the ropes -- how to do it all. We had considered renting a houseboat with our children but in the end were too nervous about it. So when the opportunity came, we jumped at it! Dave actually was scheduled to have bi-lateral lingual hernia repair done just before the Lake Powell trip, but that was easily re-scheduled for the middle of September. We feel that we were so lucky to be invited to come along.
There are some very nice people in our ward, that have become our great friends. They invited us to come with them for a week at Lake Powell on a very nice houseboat which they own a share in. We had a wonderful time with Chris and Kay Chamberlain (he's our bishop), Michelle and Spencer Cannon, Gene and Andrea Puckett, Mike and Kella Scott and Ray and Debbie Meyers (He was the bishop when we moved into American Fork.) This was an all-adult trip -- what could be better! The houseboat is docked at Bullfrog, Utah which is probably the most popular marina at Lake Powell. We found the following information in Wikipedia. Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona (most of it, along with Rainbow Bridge, is in Utah). It is the second largest man-made reservoir in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre feet (30 km³) of water when full. Lake Powell was created by the flooding of Glen Canyon by the controversial Glen Canyon Dam, which also led to the creation of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, a popular summer destination. The reservoir is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, a one-armed American Civil War veteran who explored the river via three wooden boats in 1869. Dave points out that he was a geologist also!
We loaded up our gear and drove to the Bullfrog marina early on the morning of August 29th and came home on the 3rd of September. It was a wonderful week of relaxation and great fun.
We took turns cooking. Each couple provided the food for and prepared one breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone made their favorite meal and man were the eats good! I think that we all put on about five pounds. We brought pork ribs, corn on the cob and coleslaw.
We took a couple of hikes and did some exploring. It was nice and warm, but the water was always there, and we were frequently ready for a refreshing swim.

We had a great time. We're so grateful for the beauties of God's Creations! Lake Powell is one of His more-lovely accomplishments.
