Thanksgiving was a Learning Experience

T-giving dinner at Mimi's Cafe in Sandy, Utah
On Thanksgiving, we decided to try something different.  I heard on TV, that some huge percentage of Americans (75 to 95 % or so) eat out at a restaurant for their Thanksgiving dinner.  What a surprise!  I would have guessed about 5 to 10 %.  The temptation to not cook and have no clean-up was very tempting.  Andrea and the Tanners had eaten at Mimi's Cafe the year before, and had a good experience, so we decided to celebrate our Thanksgiving Day at the Mimi's on 104th South and State Street in Sandy.

It wasn't a good idea.  The food wasn't very good.  Although the turkey was nice, the dressing was tasteless and the vegetables were nasty.  The pumpkin pie was really bad.  It was very noisy as well.  There must have been at least twelve tables of at least ten people each in the small dining room we were in.  We couldn't hear the comments or input to the conversation from the people at the far end of our table.  It was so noisy that we didn't feel like we could even have a blessing on the food.
So we agreed that we'd do a "Thanksgiving Do-Over" on the Sunday after the week of Thanksgiving.  I cooked a pork tenderloin with a new recipe, and we had all our traditional dishes (Christmas yam casserole, and Holiday Blueberry/Raspberry Jello).  Heather brought the rolls and Julie and Jeff brought the mashed potatoes.  It was so much better!!!  The banana and coconut cream pies for dessert was divine!  We all took turns saying what we were thankful for, and Dave said a really nice blessing on the food.
In our home, from now on and forever, we'll continue the time proven tradition of having our Thanksgiving Feast at home, with the family that is nearby and can join us. We missed having Andrea and her family with us.  Maybe next year we'll all be together. : )
