When the weather in Utah was really cold, from the 23rd of January through the end of the month, we celebrated Dave's entrance into "old age" by taking a trip to Maui, Hawaii. We took our three kids, and their spouses. . . . .so we were a group of eight. We stayed at the Honua Kai Resort in the Kaanapali District on the Northern end of Maui. The resort where we stayed is on the beach with all of the resort amenities and the two, two bedroom, two bath suites served us quite nicely. It was a beautiful setting!
We had a great time at the pools and spas of the resort. The beach there was also very nice.

One of the first days there we drove the road to Hana and enjoyed the wonderful scenery of the bamboo rainforests that characterize the north side of the island.
There are myriads of waterfalls along the drive to stop at for a swim or just some fun hiking. We stopped as several of them.
It had not been raining a lot so the water in the falls was not great but we still saw some spectacular sights!

We stopped at one nice spot for lunch and took some great pictures. It was a wonderful spot for a picnic!

Hiking through the Bamboo Forest was quite an experience.
Hiking to what the natives call "the Needle" was a fun adventure for us one day.
We spent part of one afternoon watching the adventurous kite surfers battle huge waves on the north shore of the island near the airport. We saw some great rainbows while we were there. The picture below doesn't quite do them justice.

Walking the beaches and hiking the cliffs just north of Kaanapali was a nice adventure. At one point, a spectacular blowhole can be seen when the tides are right!
